Herb Welch like Carries Stevens was one of the imporant fly tiers to come out of Maine's Rangeley lakes region. Herb was better known as a taxidermist, yet his fly patterns such as the Black Ghost, Welch Rare Bit, Cupsuptic, and Kennebago have taken their place as standards.
