"A selection of the best trout insects for the month of April. Painted from life by the author."
-American Trout Stream Insects by Louis Rhead.

An artist by profession. Louis Rhead authored "American Trout Stream Insects". It was one of the first attempts on American angling entomology. Rhead spent the better part of 3 years collecting insect specimens from the Beaver Kill in New York's Catskill Mountains Though flawed in his attempt, because Rhead chose to give the local insects names he invented such as: Needle - Tail, Brown Buzz, and Little Mauve, it was none the less a breakthrough in American fly fishing entomology and literature. Mr. Rhead was also the creator of the
"Nature Fly".
