Hiram Leonard

Born in 1831, this Bangor, Maine, gunsmith developed the six strip bamboo in 1871. By 1876 with the use of a machine beveler, Leonard rods were being produced. The Leonard rod company would go on to be perhaps the most influential shop of all in regards to fly rod making, in this country as many of the noted rod makers would come from Hiram Leonard's shop.
