Born and raised in Odense, Denmark,
Jorgensen made his home in the United States for over
45 years. Best known for his work with Atlantic Salmon
flies, Poul was also an outstanding creator of "ultra-realistic
flies" and superb trout flies.
During a visit to the
Roscoe, New York area in 1980, Jorgensen fell in love
with the Catskill waters and decided to make his home
in Roscoe, in a cottage on the banks of the Willowemoc
Creek. He was known as a "Fly Tyer's - Tyer" a great
and enthusiastic teacher and angler, Jorgensen who
became a full time professional fly tyer in 1969, authored
several books and videos. "Fly tying is a school from
which, one never graduates", was just one of the many
quotes attributted to Poul. In 2001 Poul Jorgensen
was inducted into the Catskill Fly Fishing Center's
Hall of Fame, an honor he held dearly. Poul Jorgensen
passed away on November 29, 2004 in the little cottage
that he loved, on the banks of the waters that he loved
so much.
