A vivid and active outdoorsman, in fact the term "Hellraiser" would be an aptly fitting title for Mr. Herman Christian. Like Roy Steenrod, Christian was a fishing companion of Theodore Gordon. A believer in fishing large flies for large trout, Christian was a big fan of Gordon's "Bumblepuppy" fly. An extremely large fly tied on a 1/0, 4XL hook. Herman Christian is also a fly tier whose flies are eagerly sought after by today's collectors. In his book "Streamcraft" author Dr. George Parker Holden refers many times to the excellent angling skill of Herman Christian.
