Like J. Edson Leonard, John Atherton was also an artist.
A highly successful artist whose works were displayed in
fine art galleries around the world. In connection with
the work of Preston Jennings, Atherton too, was intrigued
by the effects of light and color on the behavior of trout.
A friend of Edward Hewitt, he sought out through experimentation
the various cause and effect of such properties on trout.
His findings were published in the classic book "The
Fly and The Fish." pub in 1951.
John Atherton loved to fish on his home waters of the
Battenkill river in Vermont, John so loved the Battenkill
River that upon his passing his wife Maxine along with
John's friends Lee Wulff and Walter Squires helped her
to bury his ashes beneath the roots of a young maple
tree along it's banks. An incredible artistt and fly-fisherman
his paintings are highly treasured items. |
